St John's has a close relationship with two of our local CofE schools: St John's Combined School in Lacey Green and Speen First School.
St. John’s school, over many years, has seen a developing role with the incumbent of the parish. Assemblies are taken every Friday and this is seen as an important part of the life and worship of the school.
The Vicar works closely with the Head Teacher, staff and collective worship group every term developing biblical teaching and themes that relate to the values statements of the school. The Church are seen as an important stakeholder and have many foundation governors working alongside the collective Staff and pupils.
There is much artwork around the school depicting various stages in the life and work of Jesus Christ, and we follow the Church’s Calendar, so that the children can understand more about Church and what it is for.
There is also an after schools club called Splash, developed through St. John’s Church with the help of Rev James Tomkins, vicar of St Dunstan's. This is much loved. The children have fun, games, songs and bible stories.
Speen CofE First School
Speen School is very special in character and position. It is a small school but doing extremely well and the teaching is of an excellent standard.
The children engage in a most spontaneous way with Friday assemblies, always being willing to pray out loud at the end of the assembly and speak to God. Many volunteers each week long to be chosen to pray. The prayer aspect of this school, among the children, is wonderful.
The PCC is committed to uphold the strong links with both schools and provide excellence of foundation governors in both schools. The work of both Head teachers is commended.
